New in Sugar 6.5 – iCal support for Calendar

bsoremsugar —  May 29, 2012 — 22 Comments

We continued our investment into our Calendaring support in Sugar 6.5 by reaching out to another fine SugarForge project, this time the iCal Patch project created by Ray Gauss II. This brings read-only support for viewing your Sugar calendar inside any iCal compatible calendar app, such as Apple’s iCal, Mozilla Sunbird, Outlook 2007/2010, Google Calendar, as well as on your iPhone or Android phone.

The simpliest usage is to just put the URL on you account page right into the client of choice, as shown below:

Put your username in where it says %MYUSERNAME% and your Publish Key in where it says %MYSECRETKEY%.

But there are a number of URL parameter you can pass as well in the URL to do a few other neat things. Here’s a quick rundown…

Number of Months:

The default number of months to fetch events from is +-2 but you can override that by specifying num_months in the URL:

Encoding:

The default encoding will be UTF-8 but you can override that by specifying the encoding in the URL:

Charset:

The default charset will be UTF-8 but you can override that by specifying the charset in the URL:

HTTP Spec:

The default HTTP spec is 1.1 but you can override that by specifying the spec in the URL, useful when deploying to some servers like nginx (which SugarCRM on demand uses):

This is quite useful, thanks. The two common questions I get re this are on how to add this to their Google Calendar and to their iPhone. So I thought I’d add those steps below:

To view your SugarCRM Calendar in Google Apps Calendar, do the following:

    1. In SugarCRM Select your username from the top navigation bar
    2. Select Profile
    3. Select Advanced
    4. Copy the iCal integration URL
    5. Open Google Calendar
    6. In the left navigation bar, hit the drop down next to Other Calendars
    7. Select Add by URL
    8. Refresh your calendar view, you’ll see your SugarCRM Calendar now in your Google Apps Calendar.

To add your SugarCRM Calendar to your iPhone or iPad
    1. On the iPhone,
    2. Go to Settings
    3. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    4. Select Add Account…
    5. Select Other
    6. Select Add Subscribed Calendar
    7. Paste in the same URL as previously and click Next
    8. Click Save

  5.

Are there any other tips or tricks that you can share that will enable faster loading/updating of the calendar in gmail.

Hello, I’m using Sugar Professional 6.7 and I want to view my Sugar CRM calendar in my Google Calendar app. I have followed the directions exactly:

To view your SugarCRM Calendar in Google Apps Calendar, do the following:

    1. In SugarCRM Select your username from the top navigation bar
    2. Select Profile
    3. Select Advanced
    4. Copy the iCal integration URL
    5. Open Google Calendar
    6. In the left navigation bar, hit the drop down next to Other Calendars
    7. Select Add by URL
    8. Refresh your calendar view, you’ll see your SugarCRM Calendar now in your Google Apps Calendar.

However, instead of it working, it gives me the following error: Settings Error: We could not parse the calendar at the url requested.

Any idea how I can fix this? I am using the iCal integration URL and it does contain the pertinent info for my profile. It’s driving me kind of crazy.

    Thanks so much! -R
