Summing string field values with Sugar Logic

Here’s a good question that one of our sales engineers asked recently…

I am trying to create a calculated field (through Studio) which sums the values of three drop down fields and need some quick guidance.

This is a bit tricky, but still very simple to do with Sugar Logic. The key is a function called number() which will cast a string value to a number so you can perform math functions on them.

add(number($value1), number($value2), number($value3))

This makes doing custom dropdown fields that have text description values, but numeric values in the backend ( like a dropdown for scoring a lead, rating a record, etc ) easy to perform math on.
