Getting the current user's ID in web services using jQuery

I came across a question on Stack Overflow the other day…

I need to find the user who is logged into the current session.

They proposed some jQuery code but had trouble making it work. A quick fix got it working, and it was such a useful snippet on using callbacks in jQuery that I felt it could help anyone out who is looking to make web services calls to Sugar using jQuery. Here’s how you can do it…
