Thanks to everyone who attended the UnCon! It was a whirlwind for all of us but I think we have put on the best iteration of this event we have ever had.

In brief, it went so well that there is wide agreement across the company for a significantly expanded event for Sugar Developers at SugarCon next year. So we look forward to seeing you all again for SugarCon in September 2017.

UnCon is back again!

Matthew Marum —  February 19, 2015 — Leave a comment

Sugar Engineering is excited to announce that we are hosting another Sugar Developer exclusive event this year at SugarCon 2015.  UnCon is back again and better than ever!  We listened to your feedback and are changing up the format a bit this year.  We will have two concurrent tracks during UnCon – a hackathon contest and roundtable discussions.  This will allow us to maximize the value of UnCon for any Sugar Developer of any experience level.

Join us at UnCon to learn how sweet it is to be a Sugar Developer! UnCon is a great chance for novice to ninja-skilled Sugar developers to hack side-by-side with our core engineers, and learn from the brightest stars in Sugar Engineering and the Sugar Developer community at Unconference-style roundtable discussions. Oh, and we will have beer too.

Stay tuned for more details that will follow in coming weeks!  We hope to see you at SugarCon 2015!  Your conference registration includes access to UnCon.

We are back on the road in May, participating in two of the biggest PHP events in the North America this month.

First off is php|tek 2013 in Chicago, which is the premier gathering of the PHP community bringing the experts and influencers from across the world to a week of sessions, great conversation, and fun times. We at Sugar are sponsoring it for the 3rd year in a row, this time the Uncon being ran by my good friend Michelangelo van Dam (@DragonBe). I’m hoping to a talk of mine in there, but moreso I’m looking forward to seeing all the rest of the great content during the conference. Jason Eggers ( @eggsurplus ) of SugarOutfitters will also be joining me at the event.

DrupalCon Portland Silver Sponsor

The week after is DrupalCon Portland, which brings together the worldwide Drupal Community for a full week of learning and sharing the latest on the Drupal, including the upcoming Drupal 8. We’ll be there sponsoring with our partner OSSCube, looking to continue the momentum from our presence at DrupalCon Munich last summer. If you are in town, be sure to check out Symfony Live going on at the same time.

As always, I hope to run into Sugar users and developers at both events; let me know if you plan to be there.

I’m excited to announce the OpenSocial Foundations presence at ApacheCon NA in Portland at the end of February. We have two great sessions lined up…

As a foundation, we are very excited to be participating in this event, and look forward to helping more people become aware of this open standard for social business middleware.

… and we’ll be at a number of them upcoming. Check out the list below of where you can find me this fall…

  • Percona Live MySQL New York Conference (http://www.percona.com/live/nyc-2012 ) – New York ( October 1st-2nd ), where I’ll be doing a new talk entitled “Rescuing your legacy database abstraction layer”, talking about the refactoring work did in the Sugar 6.4 release.
  • International PHP Conference ( http://phpconference.com/ ) – Mainz, Germany ( October 16th-17th ), where I’ll be doing my popular talk, “Developing easily deployable PHP Applications”.

  • OW2Con 2012 ( http://ow2.org/view/OW2Con-2012/ ) – Paris ( November 28th-29th ), where I’ll be to speak about SugarCRM, OpenSocial, and meetup with various members of the worldwide OW2 community.

Look forward to seeing fellow Sugar community members at these various events. Also, if you have a conference or meetup you’d like me to be a part of, let me know in the comments or tell me on Twitter.
